What a fantastic blog, I’ve really enjoyed reading all the stories. I was born and bred in Hampstead of working class stock. Was a postman at the Hampstead sorting office from 1979, and frequented each and every pub mentioned on these pages.
I look back with a hint of sadness at what a wonderful times they were back then with such a rich community feel we had in all the pubs back then.
Pre the change to all day drinking the ” tunnel club” was a regular haunt of the drinking classes.
I’d like to give a big thumbs up to the writer of this blog, it’s a great skill to capture the Essenes of a pub or its culture, and you have captured it perfectly!
I thank you.
I used to work at the Magdala. I miss it very much all my colleagues and patrons!
We miss you and everyone too, Coral!
